Glen Yates is a hard-working entrepreneur with a vision of creating a groundbreaking nationwide framing operation with the most talented, experienced team in the business. Growing up on a farm in Northern Alberta, Glen learned how to creatively solve problems using his strong work ethic, and his grassroots honesty. These were traits that served him well as he began his professional career after graduating from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in Construction Engineering. Seeking adventure, Glen paired his early office experience with his growing interest in the construction industry and began pursuing a new goal. Undaunted by hard work, he started as a laborer on a construction site in the U.S. — eventually moving through the construction ranks to general manager of framing operations. Glen paired this impressive experience and work ethic with his people-centered approach and his focus on customer relations at every level. Glen views every experience as an opportunity to learn and grow. A little over a decade after he began working in construction, Glen acquired majority ownership in Colt Builders. Leveraging his leadership, his keen understanding of the framing and construction industry, Glen builds excellent teams of the most accomplished professionals, has an impressive ability to recognize and foster talent, and has compelling vision. When not traveling or at work for Colt, Glen refuels by spending time with his family, hiking, snow skiing and waterskiing.
Chief Operating Officer
Shane is a dedicated, hard-working, honest and committed person–both to his family and work. Having grown up on a farm in rural Ontario, these characteristics were instilled in him from a young age. Some of his first jobs were helping on the farm and road work for the local township. After studying Construction Management at Confederation College in Thunder Bay, Ontario, he began a job building prefabricated walls in Alberta. With hard work and his good sense of humor in tow, he worked his way through the ranks–laborer, foreman, job supervisor and project manager. This eventually led him to his current position as the Vice President of Colt. In his spare time, Shane enjoys playing hockey, hiking, biking and spending time with his family. He works at our Rhode Island office.
Chief Financial Officer
Mike is proudly from Bucks County Pennsylvania and a graduate of West Virginia University where he earned a degree in Accounting. Mike’s interest in the construction industry started in high school as he helped with his family’s home remodeling business. This interest turned into a 12 year career in Public Accounting in Montgomery County Maryland where he served primarily construction contractors. During this time Mike’s enthusiasm for the construction industry grew as he learned the dynamics of what made a successful construction Company. Mike brings this enthusiasm and knowledge to Colt where he leads the accounting and finance team. Mike enjoys spending time with his family and friends, spending as much time outdoors as possible, and is a loyal fan of the West Virginia University Mountaineers football team.
Vice President, West
Originally from Poland, Janusz got his start in the framing industry translating for a contractor as he worked his way through college for a Political Science degree in Worcester, MA. As he worked in Massachusetts, learning the foundations of framing and siding, he quickly gained more experience and responsibility over crews and projects and moved up to management position. With his 14 years of experience in commercial construction, working in 9 different states, in 2013 Janusz decided to move to Texas to expand Colt’s operations. His ability to work closely with the estimating, preconstruction and on-site management team to deliver commitments made during the bid and budget process makes Colt’s operations in Southwest region extremely effective. Outside of work, Janusz loves sports, especially soccer. He used to coach Girls Varsity High School and U-14 Boys Premier Club in MA.
Vice President, East
After growing up in New England and graduating from the University of Massachusetts, Walter began interning with a framing company in Maryland. This led to a promotion as foreman, where he honed his technical and problem solving skills–overseeing projects for single family homes. He returned to commercial framing with Mid-Atlantic Framing before joining the Colt team in 2015. With over ten years experience in commercial woodframing, Walter has overseen more than 10,000 multi-family units and commercial buildings. His skill set includes scheduling and project estimation, construction project management, contract negotiation and business development. Walter prides himself on keeping current with industry standards and emerging trends.
Texas Regional General Manager
At a very early age, Karl started working for his family owned a business in Monroe, Louisiana, where he was taught two basic principles: First, Hard work will pay off; Second, You have to work harder than the next person to get to the top. He grew up in the shop and could take on many projects that typically would be assigned to the older more experienced service technicians. These skills led him to the University of Louisiana at Monroe where he enrolled in the Construction Management Curriculum, the 1st and oldest accredited Construction Management program in the nation. At ULM, he was a member of the Construction Honor Society, Construction Guild and President of Student ABC Chapter. After graduating in 1993, he served on ULM’s Construction Industry Advisory Council. Karl prides himself in Christian principles, hard work, and high integrity. He is motivated to serve and support his team so they can grow to be the best in the marketplace. When not working, Karl spends time with his wife and two sons. He enjoys the outdoors, hunting, and fishing.
Director of Preconstruction
Phil began his career as a carpentry intern. After realizing there were few jobs in carpentry, he switched to plumbing. As a master plumber, and now a seasoned multifamily subcontractor, Phil understands the guts of a building. He enjoys working with his hands and isn’t afraid to pick up a tool beside his crew members. Phil Blake, is responsible for our projects in Texas. For him, team building and watching a project come to life are the best parts of a job. He takes pride in what he has helped to create. He is known to drive the longer route home with his two kids so they can see “the towers” he’s helped to build. Phil and his family work and play in Austin, TX.
Bill Cuddeback joins Colt with over 25 years’ experience in field framing widely ranging from single family starter homes to custom houses in the Boston suburbs to large scale multi-family units supervising over up to 120 workers at a time. Illinois born, but Southeastern Massachusetts raised, Bill worked construction during the summers of high school and after giving college a try at Bridgewater State University, he was drawn back to carpentry fulltime where his passion ultimately laid. It was the sense of accomplishment that attracted him to the trade; being able to stand back and see the finished product he had just been a part of building. Bill put in years of hands on work as a Carpenter, Forman, and Field Supervisor before stepping into roles focused on Safety. Bill is Colt’s Safety Director, based out of the Rhode Island office, and prides himself in being proficient in critical reading of regulations and specifications. He understands the ways in which the crew prefers to work, how to apply common sense safety and identify new safe methods which complement the teams’ efforts and give them the ability to work with the upmost efficiency. Bill is motived by helping others succeed and believes that has been the driving force behind his own success. Bill is a proud family man with four kids. He and his wife enjoy spending time on their boat docked in Westport, MA where the family likes to set out a few lobster traps in the entrance to Buzzards Bay.
Director of Human Resources, Development, and Training
“If you don’t know how to do something, learn how to do it.” With this motto, Maureen strives to improve herself and learn new things daily. Having grown up in California, Maureen moved to Maryland when she was 21 to attend the University of Maryland. She has diverse work experience prior to joining Colt; a career in law enforcement, as well as being a field rep, designer and contract salesperson for a Kitchen and Bath Company. Maureen joined the Colt team in 2012. She was the Safety Coordinator and holds the designation of a Safety Trained Supervisor for Construction (STSC) by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. Maureen is currently in the process of developing Colt University.
Head Estimator, Maryland
Ryan Burd has been a Project Estimator with Colt Builders since 2014. Ryan worked his way into estimations starting as a construction laborer, at the age of 15 for a local home builder. He then worked at Structural Systems as a truss designer, Mid-Atlantic Framing as a site supervisor and estimator and moved into turnkey framing estimations when he joined the Colt team. His knowledge on commercial wood framed buildings along with his attention to detail allows him to excel as an estimator. He earned an associates’ degree in Construction Management which provided a solid foundation, but Ryan says he has learned the most working in the industry and on job sites. Ryan believes in giving back to his community and shares his passion for sports by coaching Little League baseball and youth wrestling. An avid New York Yankees fan, Ryan shares this passion with his wife and two kids.
Head Estimator, Rhode Island
Sean was introduced to the industry the summer after high school, working as a framing laborer for a local builder in Pennsylvania. After attending Georgia Tech and UMASS for electrical engineering, he went to work for Shawnlee Construction. There, he learned the art of carpentry–from dock repairs in Nantucket to building a concert hall in the Berkshires. After a brief stint framing in Florida, he returned to Shawnlee Construction as the estimator-in-training and eventually trained and managed what became the estimating department. Sean joined the Colt team in 2014. He created, and continues to develop, the estimating database that Colt uses today with the 6 other members of our estimating department. Sean’s passions include: playing the guitar, skiing, going to the beach and playing golf. Sean works out of our Rhode Island office.
Senior Project Manager, Arizona
Ben recently came to Colt Builders with over 10 years’ experience working for national general contractors in Phoenix, AZ. Over those years he has had the opportunity to work on some complex wood framed projects. What first attracted him to Colt was “everyone from the top to the bottom showed tremendous amount of respect and dedication towards the project(s)”. When the opportunity to join the team came, Ben did not hesitate.
A Nebraska native, Ben graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelors in Construction Engineering. Ben considers himself a problem solver and uses all resources available to ensure project specifics are thoroughly evaluated. This includes the use of technology such as Autodesk Revit and Trimble Sketchup to review constructibility of projects.
Ben exemplifies Colt’s commitment to building communities through his personal community service. Yard work is his meditation in addition to brewing beer and cooking.
Project Manager, Mid-Atlantic
Senior Project Manager for the D.C. Metro area, Jim Junkin brings an impressive construction skill set to his projects. His resume includes experience in project management, finance, sales, marketing, and resource management across both commercial and residential sectors. Jim has been with Colt Builders since 2014. Prior to this he worked in the industry as a Field Superintendent, Site Supervisor, Assistant Project Manager, and Laborer. Throughout his career, Jim has managed approximately $30 million in construction projects. In line with Colts commitment to safety, Jim has multiple safety certificates, including OSHA 30 and STSC. Jim is an avid baseball fan. When he isn’t rooting for his New York Yankees, he is an assistant coach with the VA Cannons 9u Travel team. Jim earned his B.A. from University of Maryland, College Park in Chinese Studies.
Project Manager, Mid-Atlantic
Mike Baker is a project manager in Colt’s Washington, D.C. area operation. A results oriented, hands-on construction and development professional, Mike has over 20 years of expertise in all facets of the industry. Mike prides himself on his team building and leadership combined with his track record for the successful completion of projects; Mike is a valuable asset for Colt and our clients. Through his years in the industry, Mike has built a positive rapport with local officials, architects, engineers, vendors, and clients. As a Colt Project Manager, Mike believes in maintaining costs while getting the job done on time. His expertise includes contract negotiations, document preparation, building code, regulations, safety compliance and management, material purchasing, and site management. Mike’s commitment to safety goes beyond Colt Builders. In his free time Mike is an EMT, fire fighter and Search & Rescue team member. He holds FEMA certifications in several key National Incident Management areas.
