Colt History

Colt Builders was founded in 1994, established by a group of experienced framers in Canada.  In the early years, Colt created a long lasting relationship with Colson & Colson, a general contractor specializing in Independent Living Retirement Communities.  Through the years Colt has constructed over 200 senior retirement buildings for Colson & Colson.  The strong relationship has continued to present years.

After working through the ranks in the framing industry, and gaining valuable field and management experience, Glen Yates acquired majority ownership of Colt Builders in 2011.  At the time, Glen took leadership over a small company with an infrastructure that presented a platform for growth.

After years of operational responsibility at another framing company, Glen saw the opportunity for Colt to expand the wood frame construction community to a nationwide network. Glen took the framework he had acquired and started to build an exceptional team. In 2012, Jamie Howard joined the Colt Builders team, Glen and Jamie had worked together previously in the Northeast.  Jamie supervised the first large multi-family home project in Stamford CT, 75 Tresser with The Hanover Company. He then moved onto another large job in Arizona, and set up a new region office there.  Jamie is currently in the Salt Lake City office doing Preconstruction.

In 2013, Colt had another opportunity to work with The Hanover Company on a multi-family housing project in Austin, Texas.  Already a part of Colt, and with years of experience working alongside Glen, Janusz Sakowicz spearheaded these Colt operations in the Texas market.  Janusz remains in Texas and is the Regional General Manager, overseeing projects in the Southwest including Texas, Arizona and California.  He recently added Washington to his region.  Phil Blake, a Senior Project Manager, who had worked with Glen for years in Canada and New England, joined Colt in 2013 and moved to Texas to strengthen operations and continues to enhance field operations with his knowledge and Preconstruction skills.

Glen solidified the company’s infrastructure by bringing Shane Broughton on board in 2013.  Shane brought with him years of experience in the Northeast as a Senior Project Manager.  Shane is now Vice-President of Operations, overseeing the entire company as well as our many traveling crews.  He remains in our Rhode Island office to support the growing Northeast market.

Walter Pawlowski joined the Colt team as Regional General Manager in 2015.  Walter managed projects with Hanover and Donahoe, building strong relationships with nationwide General Contractors.  He currently heads business development and operations as Regional General Manager in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions.

In recent years, many talented professionals have joined Colt Builders creating a well-rounded team.  In 2016 Ben Lehan brought his experience to Colt, and currently assists in the management, growth, and development in Arizona and the Southwest.  The bevy of talent spans the company including an experienced estimating department, a fantastic and knowledgable field team, a construction CFO, full time Director of Risk Management and dynamite administrative staff.

Today, Colt provides turnkey projects for material and skilled labor on various commercial framing projects, including multi-family apartments, assisted living facilities, townhomes, senior retirement complexes, student housing, as well as hotels and other commercial framing projects.  Colt has expanded services to include siding, roof and trim to many projects.
